1st Semester (1)RATIONALE (Effective communication is very important for everyday living in every culture and one of the most essential aspect of a culture is language. Being able to communicate a language obviously means being able to be understood and further more, it also means being able to take part in that culture. The study of these languages therefore, is to help widen knowledge as well as to help prepare those who wish to visit African countries.
(2)AIMS (To introduce the African Alphabets & Numerals; to explore the English alphabets with objects in African languages; to develop the use of imagery & sound in African languages; to develop the skills in African languages necessary for greetings; to build students’ confidence in conversing the African language)
(3)OUTCOMES (By the end of the semester, students will be able to; understand and recite the African Alphabets as well as numbers; understand the meanings of words, phrases and sentences in the language studied; converse, to some degree, in aspects of these languages; write (at least a letter) in these languages.
(4)ASSESSMENT METHODS (Discussion and questions & answers – Q & A; completion of handouts; worksheets and activity tasks; role-play – groups, pairs etc; homework)
